Fire and Ban Teachers Who Praise Political Violence

Fire and Ban Teachers Who Praise Political Violence
The Issue
Petition for the Termination and Licensure Review of Educators Who Publicly Praised or Justified Political Violence
As a family with children from elementary to high school, this issue is personal. We teach our kids to stand firm in their faith and use their voices with courage. But what happens when a child disagrees with a teacher who has openly praised violence? No parent should fear that a teacher’s bias could make school unsafe. Our children deserve classrooms led by role models who protect, not intimidate.
Recently, multiple educators in the Clark County School District and affiliated charter schools made public statements online that glorified or mocked political violence after the tragic death of Charlie Kirk. Teachers hold profound influence over young minds, shaping not only knowledge but also values. When they endorse violence, they betray parental trust, violate Nevada law, and create a hostile learning environment.
Reassigning these teachers is not accountability. Nevada law (NRS 391.330, NRS 391.750) provides clear grounds for dismissal when educators engage in immorality, unprofessional conduct, or behavior that disrupts the educational mission. Governor Joe Lombardo himself stated that any employee who acted inappropriately in response to this tragedy should be removed immediately.
Our children thrive in classrooms free from intimidation, bias, and hostility. Allowing teachers who celebrate violence to remain employed sends the dangerous message that such behavior is tolerated. That cannot stand in Nevada.
We call on the Nevada Department of Education, CCSD, and charter school authorities to:
Terminate all verified educators who praised or justified violence.
Refer their licenses for revocation review.
- Mr. Robert Cowles — Teacher, Cimarron-Memorial High School (CCSD) Alleged content: Stated that no one was more “deserving” of a gunshot wound to the neck than Charlie Kirk. Violation: Openly praises targeted violence; creates fear for students who hold differing views. Requested action: Termination; referral for license revocation.
- Mr. Joe Sedlak — Special Education Teacher, Sig Rogich Middle School (CCSD) Alleged content: Multiple posts mocking the shooting and sharing celebratory music/memes. Violation: Celebrates violence; undermines safety of all students, particularly vulnerable special education students entrusted to his care. Requested action: Termination; referral for license revocation.
- Ms. Amor Paulino (also known as Amor Veloz) — Mater Academy East (Charter) Alleged content: “VIOLENCE IS THE ANSWER ALWAYS.” Violation: Explicit endorsement of violence; wholly incompatible with role of educator; creates disruption across school community. Requested action: Termination; referral to the SPCSA (charter authorizer) and license revocation review.
- Ms. Kristin Pohl — CCSD Educator (Del Sol Academy) Alleged content: Posted “You reap what you sow” under a family photo of Charlie Kirk. Violation: Public justification of political assassination; fails to model respect and safety for students. Requested action: Verify employment; if confirmed, termination and license revocation review.
Confirm that student safety and accountability, not politics, guide every decision. Together, we can safeguard our children’s classrooms and restore trust in our schools. Please sign and share this petition to demand immediate accountability. Contact the Superintendent Jhone Ebert
