The Issue

To The Honorable California Parole Board Commissioners,

Please keep Eric Nathaniel Marum CDCR #F61434 (NATE) in prison for the horrific murder of Nicole Crystal Sinkule October 16, 2005. She was in the prime of her life and only 25 years old.

The prisoner stalked her, mentally and emotionally abused her, planned to murder her and then he did.  He murdered her in her sleep choosing to use the claw part of a hammer because it would kill her faster. He struck her over 13 times separating her skull and then left the hammer in her head fleeing to the ocean to wash his hands. He was charged with 2nd degree murder and sentenced to 16 years to life.

At the time of Nicoles’ horrific murder, the prisoner was a methamphetamine, domestic violent abuser. However," the record of evidence demonstrates that Mr. Marum did not commit the life crime of murder solely in a rare, intoxicated rage, but rather in the pattern of escalating intimate partner violence. And that his longest period of sobriety in the community was only 4 months despite several attempts to participate in rehabilitation programs. "(Governor Newsom, 2022)

In Marums first parole hearing 2019 he was given a 5-year denial due to concerns about his insight and the adequacy of his parole plans. He then petitioned to advance and in 2021 he was recommended parole. In 2022 Governor Newsom reversed that decision, saying “I find the evidence shows that he currently poses an unreasonable danger to society if released from prison this time.”  In 2023 Marums recent hearing, he was given a 3 -year denial and will be eligible for parole once again June 6, 2025

If paroled, his plans changed from making a Netflix show of Folsom Prison and winning an Oscar to becoming a welder. He wants to live in Carmichael, Ca or nearby; get married, go hunting with his father even though he’s a felon and he said he is no longer a narcissist.

The inmate is well educated with an anti-social personality. He comes from a well-off and educated family but even with all the breaks he starts stealing and doing drugs at 16 to 25. He has a history of past relationships that show he is a danger to society and especially to women if released. In as well he was at the Sinkules older daughters' home the same night, he murdered Nicole.

The S. D., CA DA office said, “he can internalize programming but has no insight of why he did what he did.  He's still lacking insight into his domestic violence past and the underlying reasons for the brutal murder. He's lacking insight into the underlying reasons for substance abuse and credibility is still an issue in discussing murder, as well as past violence. He can’t have the coping mechanisms to stop himself from doing it in the future and that makes him dangerous. “

There has been no remorse and the Sinkule’s remain fearful if Marum is released. He will have a hard time integrating back into society because of lack of insight, his weakness to drugs and grandeur thinking. he remains a threat to family, friends and to any community he might live in.

I join with others who STRONGLY OPPOSE the parole of #F61434, CONVICTED MURDER Eric Nathaniel Marum. (Nate)

It is the duty of our justice system to protect its people. To have the safety of the victim, the victim’s family, and the general public considered before any parole or other post-judgment release decision is made.
