This morning I received notification of "updated documentation and plans" for the re-development of 265 The Ridgeway. Their words not mine because, as far as I can tell, there are no changes you would notice! The number of residential units is still 178 and the height of the tower blocks is unchanged at 3-7 storeys. The illustration of the ugly, square blocks residents will be faced with is taken from the so-called revised documentation.
When in residence the Brethren were happy to have dozens of trees bordering their land, separating them from neighbours, allotments and any inquisitive passers-by. Then, in spite of representations from local biodiversity experts and presumably to enhance the site to developers, they wantonly chopped them all down! When this was met with a massive outpouring of disgust from residents their "new, revised plans" have now included planting trees between the allotments and the site!
Recently a 12 storey Aparthotel in Central Harrow was rejected by Councillors on the basis it would "dominate' the areas skyline. This would certainly be the case if this development was allowed to go ahead as the housing density and height of buildings are not at all appropriate for this area.
The proposed housing mix of this development does not address the need for family homes or local elderly residents looking for suitable longterm accommodation in the area. The lack of parking would also deter families and elderly people from investing and the provision of so many one bedroom flats would suggest a transitory population with no permanent ties to this community.
There is mention of a possible Doctors surgery which has been cynically included in the hope of satisfying the Covenant's D1 requirement on the land. However, there are four surgeries in the vicinity, all with parking nearby which this development does not provide. To my knowledge there has been no interest from any quarter for a surgery on the site!
The letter dated the 30th March states that comments must be received 21 days after the date of the letter which will be April 20th. I urge everyone, even if you have previously written or left comments, to write again and express opposition to planners regarding this totally unsuitable development.
