Virginia released its 2022 model policies for schools recently and its completely violating LGBTQ+ rights, I will have the document linked underneath this however this is a highlight on the horrible parts. To sum up what they overall said needs to take effect is this, students shall only have their name or pronouns changed with written parental consent and reasoning, as well it is required to have legal documents provided (they listed birth certificate as an example). As well transgender students are no longer allowed to use the bathrooms or locker rooms that pertain to their gender, other students cannot be required under any circumstance to call another student by prefered pronouns or name. This is a complete violation towards LGBTQ+ students who now are required to be dead-named and misgendered in a public building where they are required to attend. Students should feel safe and comfortable in school for an ideal learning environment, this cannot be allowed to happen because of how unconstitutional and hateful it is. This also violates the Virginia Human rights act which states that all people should be safe-gaurded from discremination in public spaces including educational environment.
