Convert Rather Then Replacement of Original Lamp Posts at Isla Place

Convert Rather Then Replacement of Original Lamp Posts at Isla Place
The Issue
You may have noticed the new fluorescent type street lights being installed around Tayport under Fife Councils Column Replacement Project
However they are removing some of our oldest still functioning lamp posts that bring character to the area and are destroying our history.
This is important to us as around Back Dykes the original converted Gas Lamp posts still stand and work perfectly providing an warm un-intrusive sodium glow to the resident's along Back Dykes.
The new posts are considerable taller so we feel this will create a harsh intrusive light that will be shining directly into most bedroom windows ruining the spectacular view.
Having spoken with the people in charge of the project they say
"The cast columns in question are situated on an unadopted path. It is not the responsibility of the Assets, Transportation and Environment service to provide lighting in this area. However, in these circumstances where lighting exists we replace them as required as part of the project"
So they are not required to replace the lighting but feel the need too intervene.
"The existing cast columns are not suitable for retention or refurbishment" I have asked for evidence to support this statement.
"The new lighting in this area will be a fluorescent type rather than LED. The fluorescent lanterns have been used throughout Tayport as part of the Lighting Efficiency project. The lanterns are designed to minimise back spill light into properties. The new lantern also incorporates a dimming system which will dim the lamp after 2200.
These measures should reduce the risk of illuminating the property
Although some of the buildings around Backdykes and Isla Place are 'C' listed the area itself is not a conservation area.
This is the reason that no formal consultation has taken place regarding the lighting installation"
It is my aim to highlight this to the council and express the resident’s wishes to preserve the history and character of our area.
Please help show your support and preserve the character of our area.
