Fife Council should reopen Cowdenbeath Recycling Centre without further delay.

Fife Council should reopen Cowdenbeath Recycling Centre without further delay.
The Issue
Cowdenbeath Recycling Centre is closed indefinitely.
Fife Council closed all of their recycling centres during the peak of the Covid-19 crisis.
As restrictions started to ease, centres began to reopen, albeit with limited assess.
However, as from the 20th of July, all of Fife's recycling centres will be open except one - Cowdenbeath.
Over the last couple of months, I have been working hard behind the scenes to get our local recycling facility reopened by liaising with the Chief Operating Officer of Fife Resource Solutions, the Head of Assets, Transportation & Environment at Fife Council and the Convener of Environment Protective Services & Community Safety.
Initially I gave Fife Council the benefit of doubt as it was a very challenging time and several other sites remained closed but as time moved on and other centres opened, it became abundantly clear that the reasons they continued to give for not reopening were weak and implausible.
Social distancing, road safety and poor recycling rates are three of their excuses but at no point have they provided meaningful assurances that solutions are being sought and instead insist we use Lochgelly.
This would be the perfect opportunity for Fife Council to simply mothball the centre. This would be short-sighted, reckless and leave thousands of households without a nearby recycling facility.
Fife Council should be supporting local residents and doing everything they can to help them recycle their excess waste safely, efficiently and responsibly.
Please sign and share this petition and urge Fife Council to reopen Cowdenbeath Recycling Centre without any further delay.
