The dress code in school is sexist, transphobic, and justifies victim blaming. Women get dress coded just for wearing a crop top. Some schools allow them but you have to wear a sweater over it. Women can’t wear simple outfits without being sexual harassed. As a 8th grader me and many other students have had to deal with side comments how what we are wearing, I would wear leggings or a t- shirt and get harassed. I have friends who would get harassed for wearing leggings. They started wearing sweat pants and still got harassed. I have friends who would tell me that they can’t wear certain things because boys at school. This leads us to victim blaming. Women who have been told “well if this actually happened then why haven’t you told anyone” so women will address it to the school and they will blame it on the dress code and what she is wearing and that “boys will be boys”. Transphobia. It’s everywhere in school. https://apnews.com/article/lille-france-gender-identity-906d49e6da9f932e648b835927be1d25 This article states a trans girl who killed herself because she wore a skirt to school. The school doesn’t care with what you identify as it just matters your sex. This hurts students mental health and this needs to change.
