What are the medical benefits of cannabis?
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320984#medicinal-benefits
Research has yielded results to suggest that cannabis may be beneficial in the treatment of some conditions. These are listed below.
Chronic pain
A large 2017 review of more than 10,000 scientific studies found that cannabis, or products containing cannabinoids — which are active compounds in cannabis — are effective at relieving chronic pain.
Medicinal cannabis may be of particular use in reducing neuropathic (nerve) pain.
Alcoholism and drug addiction
Some people use CBD oil to reduce or replace their intake of prescription pain medications. Furthermore, a 2017 review suggests that using cannabis may help people with alcohol or opioid dependencies treat their addictions.
A 2022 Canadian study also found a distinct correlation between medicinal cannabis use and a reduction in alcohol use.
While cannabis may help some people reduce opioid and alcohol use, taking cannabis excessively or not as prescribed can lead to a cannabis use disorder.
Depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and social anxiety
Authors of a 2017 review found some evidence supporting the use of cannabis to relieve depression and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms.
However, researchers cautioned that cannabis is not an appropriate treatment for some other mental health conditions, such as bipolar disorder and psychosis.
While research into the efficacy of medicinal cannabis as a treatment for psychiatric disorders is promising, it is still in its early stages. Further research is required to fully assess the role of medicinal cannabis in treating mental health conditions.
Cancer
Evidence suggests that oral cannabinoids are effective against nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, and some small studies have found that smoked cannabis may also help alleviate these symptoms.
Multiple sclerosis
The short-term use of oral cannabinoids may improve symptoms of spasticity among people with multiple sclerosis, but the positive effects are modest.
Epilepsy
In June 2018, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of a medication containing CBD to treat two rare, severe, and specific types of epilepsy — Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome — that are difficult to control with other types of medication. This CBD-based drug is known as Epidiolex.
A study published in 2017 found that the use of CBD resulted in far fewer seizures among children with Dravet syndrome compared with a placebo.
However, studies show that CBD use in epilepsy treatment is associated with an increased risk of side effects such as drowsiness, decreased appetite, and increased body temperature.

How can CBD be used to benefit health?
1. Lowering blood pressure
A study conducted by JCI Insight in 2017 found that CBD lowered the blood pressure of human participants. It reduced their resting blood pressure as well as their blood pressure after stress tests including mental arithmetic, isometric exercise, and the cold pressor test.
2. Reducing inflammation
CBD has been proven to help reduce inflammation and the neuropathic pain it can cause, according to a study by the Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research.
3. Preventing relapse in drug and alcohol addiction
A 2018 study discovered that CBD can be useful in helping people who suffer from drug and alcohol addiction. A preclinical trial with lab rats determined that CBD reduced the stress-induced cravings, anxiety and lack of impulse control that often cause people to relapse.
4. Treating anxiety disorders
Anxiety is perhaps the most common affliction that people have used CBD for, and a preclinical study found that CBD could be effective in treating generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
5. Treating gastrointestinal (GI) disorders
A recent study found that CBD and other non-psychoactive cannabinoids can effectively be used to prevent and treat GI disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn's, ulcerative colitis and more. CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties are key to reducing and preventing symptoms.
6. Preventing seizures
Decades of research have gone into using CBD to treat epilepsy and other seizure syndromes, and a recent study showed it can have positive effects in reducing symptoms and seizure frequency.
7. Fighting cancer
Not only has CBD been used to help alleviate the effects of chemotherapy, but studies have also found it can prevent cell growth and induce cell death in cervical cancer cell lines and it has numerous anti-cancer effects that can help prevent a variety of cancers, treat tumors, and benefit the immune system.

Potential Health Benefits of Cannabis
New research supports a number of potential health benefits of cannabis containing THC (as opposed to containing CBD exclusively).
Managing Chemotherapy Side Effects
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved several prescription drugs featuring synthetic substances similar to THC to help people navigate the uncomfortable side effects often experienced with cancer chemotherapy. Marinol and Syndros both contain dronabinol (synthetic THC), which is used to treat nausea and vomiting. Meanwhile, Cesamet contains nabilone, another synthetic substance similar to THC, and is also used to address nausea and vomiting, as well as loss of appetite and weight in patients with HIV/AIDS.
Managing Multiple Sclerosis Spasticity
Sativex, an oral spray medication available by prescription, contains both THC and CBD and is used in 25 countries to help treat muscle stiffness and spasms caused by multiple sclerosis. In Canada specifically, Sativex is used as an adjunctive treatment (alongside a primary treatment) in adult patients who haven’t responded well enough to other therapies and show meaningful improvement during an initial trial with the drug. In the U.S., Sativex is still being tested as a treatment for adults with multiple sclerosis spasticity.
Addressing Chronic Pain
Evidence suggests medications that combine THC and CBD can be effective treatments for chronic pain, particularly neuropathic pain (pain caused by nerve damage), nociceptive pain (pain caused by ongoing inflammation and related damage) and nociplastic pain (pain arising from the altered function of pain-related sensory pathways), according to a 2022 review of clinical research in Inflammopharmacology. The researchers add that this combination of cannabinoids tends to be more easily tolerated, safer and less addictive than opioid-based analgesics
Improving Sleep Quality
A 2018 study in Sleep found participants with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who took dronabinol (synthetic THC) before bed experienced a reduction in the number of times their breathing was interrupted during sleep. The 10-milligram dose performed better than the 2.5-milligram dose and placebo. Participants also experienced stronger sensations of sleepiness
Another 2014 study in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine also observed an association between dronabinol use and improved sleep metrics in patients with OSA
More Potential Health Benefits of Cannabis
Krissy Bernazani, registered pharmacist and clinical director at medical cannabis dispensary Zen Leaf Maryland, says the most common health and wellness needs she and her team address with cannabis include:
Migraine
Neuropathy
Nausea and vomiting
Appetite loss
Inflammation
Inflammatory bowel disease
Rheumatoid arthritis
Bernazani adds that many medical cannabis patients turn to cannabis after failing to find relief with other more traditional pharmaceuticals.
My Personal Marijuana Story...
I have a cyst or a tumor the size of almost a grapefruit. Was throwing everything up abd losing weight way too fast. Couldn't keep anything down or gain weight until I took edibles. In fact, marijuana use may have kept me alive this whole time. I have had PTSD for almost 40 years from being a survivor of sexual childhood abuse. It treats my very severe depression way better than the medicines I am prescribed and take. It brings a sense of peace and calm over you. Making it legal on the federal level will create a lot of money that can be earmarked for other things. If I had my way, alcohol would be illegal for all the effects have seen off it, and marijuana would be the only legal thing for Americans to partake in. Alcoholics kill people...When is the last time someone drove on marijuana and killed someone? Usually they get hungry and stay home and raid the fridge. Which buying more food, will also help this economy. Our people and this economy deserve for marijuana to be legal on a federal level. It's a plant and God created plants to use for our relief.
