Remove Dangerous Rumble Strips from Highways - Provide At Least a Six-Foot Shoulder Width Before Using Rumble Strips

Remove Dangerous Rumble Strips from Highways - Provide At Least a Six-Foot Shoulder Width Before Using Rumble Strips

The Issue

Rumble strips along the sides of highways are exceedingly dangerous for bicyclists, wheelchair users, and types of cyclists. Hundreds of miles of highways now have rumble strips with little or no shoulder which force cyclists and wheelchair users directly into highway traffic. Instead of encouraging healthy physical activity for commuting purposes, fitness and recreation, the use of rumble strips have done the opposite, forcing bicyclists off roadways. Rumble strips should not be used on highways when it is not possible to provide a six-foot or greater shoulder width.
