It's time we stop being silent and ignorant towards the effects of pornography, it's time we stop being ashamed of talking about this problem of society. It's no secret, sexually explicit content is available at the tip of our fingers, lots of which is free. In fact any kid with a cell phone can access pornography, which is the focus of this petition. Not that I encourage porn consumption to anyone,I am just being realistic, in fact I wish that no body watched it. I am especially worried about the young ones of society (both kids and teens). Now maybe you believe porn is harmless but scientific studies (and not our own feelings towards porn) are proving the facts about porn consumption. -64% of young people ages 13-24, actively seek out pornography weekly or more often (in fact it's common for kids to start viewing porn as young as 8)

-Porn sites receive more regular traffic than Netflix, Amazon and twitter combined each month

-35% of all internet downloads are porn-related

-34% of internet users have been exposed to unwanted porn via add, pops ups etc. (think of your kids, scrolling through the internet, are they really safe?)

There is countless studies done on the effects of porn. It has been linked to depression, anxiety, lack of real intimacy in relationships. Porn releases endorphins (our body's hormone that is responsible for bonding with a person) and Dopamine (the pleasure chemical) which basically makes it a free addictive drug harder to quite than heroin. It creates unrealistic expectations as the "scenes" are always exaggerated and untrue to real life. It has been actively replacing real sex in marriage and is a key factor is today's divorce rate. Porn stars are often coerced and exploited in the industry, in fact there is no way of telling whether you are watching a willing participant of porn or some one who is being trafficked, which comes to my next point: Porn feeds human trafficking and has been directly linked to it by supplying the demand for it. The list goes one and on....

Solutions: We stop feeding the demand for porn by not watching it.

We protect the young people in the world by getting our government to pass legislation regulating the ACCESSIBILITY OF PORN by having age, name, and birthday, verification, along with cracking down on free porn by requiring paid memberships

If we have age of consent laws for sex why can't porn fall into this category? If you have to be 18 to buy alcohol why not the same for online sex? If people are so pro-porn and believe its harmless then they won't mind paying to view it and verifying their identity.

Do you want to protect our young people from the destruction that porn causes? start by signing this petition, do some research and share how porn effects us. Put some restrictions on your children's device and have a conversation about the dangers of porn (with age and maturity in mind). Write a letter to your provincial and federally elected officials asking for new laws restricting the accessibility of porn. Together we can bring the change needed to protect the future of this world: our children and teens. If we can stand together for climate rallies we can stand together against porn.
