Prevent expansion of powers beyond their strict time limits.

The issue

Dan Andrews is working with the Solicitor General to construct ways to extend the ‘State of Emergency’ powers indefinitely. This is a violation of our human rights and undermines our liberal democratic way of life.

The Victorian Government has also declared a ‘State of Disaster’ giving police expanded powers.

This is a move to bypass the checks and balances on government power that we enjoy in modern liberal democracies. These checks and balances are designed to prevent governments from becoming tyrannical powers in a democratic system.

Extension of temporary powers is beyond the power of parliament and can not be allowed as this would set a precedent for tyranny in our state and country.

When a state of emergency is declared it can only be incremented in blocks of four weeks for a total of a six month period. This state of emergency is set to expire this coming September.

Dan Andrews is undermining our human rights and our democracy by this move to extend ‘State of Emergency’ powers indefinitely.

This petition calls for the State Government to rescind, annul, abrogate from any such act[s] that expand[s] or seeks to expand powers beyond their strict time limits now or in the future for declared ‘State of Emergency’ or ‘State of Disaster’ powers.

The strict time limit periods for a ‘State of Emergency’ are six months total and for a ‘State of Disaster’ the time period is one month.

Any such act[s] that aim to extend powers beyond their strict time periods are beyond the powers of parliament and may even be considered a form of state terrorism.

If the government does not rescind, annul, abrogate from any such act[s] that expand or seek to expand powers beyond their strict time limits now or in the future then we will move for a vote of no confidence and request a dissolution of parliament from the Governor General.
