Thank you for supporting our petition to save and protect our local native wildlife.
It has been awhile since our last update.
During this time, the first round of Koala surveys over Mount Glen Rock, as part of the KHARES Project have been completed.
Thankfully, this project received grant funding from the Australian Government.
94 Koala scat samples are now under analysis.
Care4esK have held 2 Community tree planting days and continue to monitor Koalas and other wildlife present here in the local area.
Care4esK have both assisted, and rescued, Koalas that were clearly unwell.
Mo, one of the previously rescued male Koalas, has been sighted relaxing back in a tree, very near to a female with a new bub.
Another rescued male, Blinky, has been safely returned, after being treated at the RSPCA Hospital.
Blinky spent several weeks in rehabilitation, recovering from Chlamydia related symptoms.
And we have been deeply saddened by the outcome of the most 2 recent rescued Koalas.
Both females, the adorable Snuggles (pictured above) and sweet Lily, were euthanised, due to the diagnosis of advanced Cystitis.
Like all wild Koalas, these beautiful girls were just doing what Koalas are meant to do... living an undisturbed peaceful life, in the Australian bush.
Such awful outcomes are heartbreaking for dedicated Rescuers and Carers, and for the Wildlife Hospital teams that must make these difficult decisions.
Left in the wild, these unwell Koalas would suffer greatly.
During the past 14 months, just in our local township area of Esk alone, we have lost 9 Koalas that we are aware of. Four have been females, in very poor condition, suffering with Chlamydia related illness.
Koala rescue numbers have sky-rocketed over the last several weeks, with Rescuers and Carers reporting an alarming increase.
Recent deaths include vehicle strikes, starvation and far too often, Chlamydia related illness.
Something serious is happening to our beloved Koalas, and everyone from community members, through to each level of Government, should be taking notice and should be extremely concerned.
Please demand that our Endangered Koalas and Threatened native species are given the protection they deserve.
Please demand the protection of their natural habitats.
Please stand up for our native wildlife and environment.
Our wildlife cannot do it.
They need us to be their voice.
Please keep sharing this petition.
Plans continue to progress for the Adventure Park development over Mount Glen Rock and surrounds.
The recent thermal drone imaging from the Koala surveys showed Koalas present on the peak of Mount Glen Rock, the upper ridges and the surrounding lower lying areas.
For the sake of our Koalas and all the other native Fauna and Flora species that will be impacted by an unnecessary recreational development of this scale, please speak up and add your voice.
We wholeheartedly thank you for your continued support.
