Esk ResidentsEsk, Australia
May 2, 2023

We thank you & are grateful for your continued support for our petition. We thought today was the perfect day to share an update from Care4esK... Enjoy!

'Care4esK has now completed the first round of Koala surveys for our KHaRES Project.

These surveys were conducted across Mount Glen Rock, a large parcel of land to the east of the Somerset region, and throughout selected areas of the Esk township.

Care4esK and the Project team were very excited to learn that the University of the Sunshine Coast had located Koalas on the upper ridges and peak of Mount Glen Rock during the Drone surveys.

Thank you to local residents with visiting Koalas, for allowing us to collect fresh scat from your properties.
This wider selection of scat will enhance the comparative analysis of genetics and health between Koala populations of the Esk/Somerset region.

The KHaRES ‘Koala Health and Rehabilitation Esk Somerset’ Project, which was initiated by Care4esK, runs in collaboration with Australian Earth Laws Alliance and is funded by the Commonwealth Government.

Elements of the KHaRES Project are guided by Jinibara people, who will return at intervals during the next 12 months to oversee our work on Country.

Care4esK will now commence the next element of the KHaRES Project: ‘Rehabilitation’.
During this stage we will be planting hundreds of Koala food trees throughout selected areas of Esk.
It will be a wonderful opportunity for community members to become active in the conservation of our local Koala population.

We will be holding two small planting events before winter really sets in.
The first will be on Saturday 20th May 8-11am, to be held adjacent to the Fire Trail (Francis Terrace end).
The second will be held on Saturday 3rd June 8-11am, at Hertrich Place, near the off-leash dog park.

Today is 'Wild Koala Day'
Let's ensure our Koalas remain, in the wild.

Please continue to share our petition for the wild Koalas and all precious native fauna & flora over Mount Glen Rock.

We greatly appreciate your efforts...
