Compassionate Release for Austin
Compassionate Release for Austin
The Issue
Austin is currently incarcerated in the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP).
The coronavirus pandemic is having a significant impact on the nation's prison system, causing higher rates of infection and death compared to the general population. Prison facilities often don’t have the ability to follow guidelines from the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention to help control the virus' spread, including social distancing, frequent hand washing, and avoiding large crowds. The virus can spread more easily in confined living conditions in prisons that are often overcrowded. Black and brown inmates are suffering at disproportionately high rates.
Austin meets the criteria for a medical compassionate release; he suffers from acute hypertension and he has heart conditions the prison was addressing prior to the onset of the pandemic, which they have neglected because it is no longer a priority. It's virtually impossible to prevent contact with this deadly virus or prevent re-contracting the virus.
Austin is a dedicated father and brother, who has paid his debt to society and is ready and capable of rehabilitation. However, despite all of these things, he has not been considered for early release or home confinement.
Please help get Austin home, as well as other inmates who qualify for release under the CARES Act.
