Federal Ban of the Selling of Laundry Detergent made from Plastic Jugs in America

The Issue

In North America it is estimated that about 900 million laundry jugs are discarded annually in the United States. Once empty, only an estimated 30 percent of these high-density polyethylene (HPDE) jugs are recycled. [1]

Plastic items can take up to 1000 years to decompose in landfills [2] The plastic jugs from laundry detergent containers continue to pile up over the years in our landfills throughout the United States.

We are leaving all this trash as a burden to our children and their children.

The laundry detergent companies have a moral responsibility to have products that have biodegradable containers and less environmental impact on our planet.

We want environmental sustainability to become a requirement of these companies. The current way is not sustainable for our planet. We would like to see a national ban from the use of selling laundry detergent in the form of plastic jugs.
