The Issue

  1. Fur clothing is made from the preserved skins of mammals and one of the oldest forms of clothing. The term "fur fabric" refers to the fabric produced from animals with long hair like mink, fox, or chinchilla and can be styled in a variety of ways. Additionally, it has been one of the most popular clothing in our industry specially to famous celebrities and fashion brands like dior, saint laurent, gucci, etc. 

 


Historically, fur was used for warmth and then, became a symbol of wealth. Fox and mink fur became incredibly popular for coats and hats. The Bubble (2024). However, these products were the result of cruel processing methods with the animals involved subjected to inhumane conditions. The International Fur Trade Federation has reported that “wild fur represents about 15-20% of the world’s trade in fur”. This means that approximately 85% of the fur industry's skins come from animals raised in captivity on fur factory farms. Peta (2024), This topic is highly questionable since we have an International law for animal cruelty and yet the exploitation of animals for fashion is still being tolerated in our society.
