Demand Fashion Fair Mall take increased safety measures

The Issue

Fashion Fair Mall in Fresno, California has had too many occurrences regarding gun violence in the last few months, and the mall has been negligent in responding to these incidents. The last two weeks alone have had issues with people within the mall forcefully using firearms and causing harm to the people around.

On behalf of the stores residing within the mall and its customers,  we are demanding that the mall management increase security and install metal detectors at all entrances to protect its employees and customers shopping. A mall named Lenox Square in Atlanta has planned on implementing mental detection technology as a new measure to keep their shoppers and stores safe, and this a suggestion that the mall should take highly and consider. It will be referenced below.

At this point in time, no action plan to combat this issue has been made available, and Fashion Fair Mall has failed to address this issue amongst its community. It has began to spiral out of control, resulting in customers feeling unsafe, and stores wanting to close earlier due to the safety of its employees.

There have been incidences on the following occasions:

  1. April 23, 2021, Jewelry Robbery involving a gun
  2. April 17, 2021, Gun violence
  3. March 9, 2021, Jewelry theft mistaken for gunshots
  4. January 2, 2021, Confrontation involving a gun
  5. September 2020, Confrontation involving a gun

The mall plans to resume regular hours beginning May 1, however cannot contain a safe environment even in the daylight. Until a controlled action plan has been put in place, this should not occur as planned. This appears to be a revolving issue that is becoming more frequent, and if the mall wants to remain a safe place for its community to enjoy and shop at, then changed must be made.
