Schools should provide menstrual products in all bathrooms for their students.
Why this petition matters
School is supposed to be a safe place for all students, and provide an environment where children feel they are respected and taken seriously by their advisors. Yet many schools, including my own Davies High School, don't provide menstrual products in their bathrooms.
Approximately 86 percent of period having people start their periods unexpectedly in public. At Davies alone, there are 1,363 students, about half of which have periods. This infers that around 580 students have gotten their period while out in public with no supplies. As high schoolers, we spend 31% of our time at school while awake, excluding those in extra curricular activities.
So why is it that we go to school with an above 80 percent chance of bleeding all over our clothes and facing public embarrassment but still don't receive products to resolve this issue in our school bathrooms?
If the schools want to increase the safety and security of their student population, they won't force us to walk down to the nurses office in shame to receive an extra-heavy night pad that causes us to feel like we are wearing a diaper. Adding Menstrual products in all bathrooms, regardless of the gendered restrooms, they would be insuring their students feel protected and comfortable.
