Removal of "Jail-like" Discipline Rooms in Public Schools

Removal of "Jail-like" Discipline Rooms in Public Schools
The Issue
At school they have rooms that have gentle names: The reflection room. The reset room. The cool-down room. The calming room. The quiet room. The refocus room. But inside theses rooms is literally less than a CLOSET! Four walls and a door, with a small window, being held shut from the outside.
Inside these "Rooms", are our children wailing for parents, screaming in anger and begging to be let out.
The students, most of them with disabilities, scratch the windows or tear at the padded/unpadded walls. They throw their bodies against locked doors. They wet their pants. Some children spend hours inside these rooms, missing class time. Through it all, adults stay outside the door, writing down what happens. No cameras to see what is being done in there, nothing to distract him or teach him on things like Anger, Frustration, being kind, manners, etc..
This is being done to our children. Children with disabilities. I understand they need to be separated if its a problem or a danger to other kids, but what if they locked them in there for 62 minutes, for something as small as standing on chair and making noises and just looked and talked to him through a small window.. FOR OVER AN HOUR!
This is wrong. School should be a safe place, not feel like a jail when you mess up. Not only is this inhumane and immoral, it also goes against Texas Education Code 37.0021 "Use of Confinement, Restraint, Seclusion and Time out.
These rooms need to be removed and a new form of an appropriate discipline needs to put into action.
Join me in protecting our kids from futures issues they might acquire from spending so much time in these rooms.
Thank you
