Families Should Not Be Punished by the Travel Ban

Families Should Not Be Punished by the Travel Ban
The Issue
This petition has a very clear and deeply human purpose: to ask the Trump administration to step in and protect the families who are being unfairly affected by the travel ban.
Today we are raising our voices and coming together to be heard. The travel ban was originally introduced as a measure aimed at limiting tourism, business, and travel from countries like Cuba, Venezuela, and others considered to be at risk. We understand that intention, and we recognize that the United States has a duty to control illegal immigration and protect national security. We support those efforts, because we also want to live in a safer country. But we believe it is not fair that, under that same policy, families who have done everything the right way are also being punished.
We want to contribute to making this a better country for everyone. We have submitted our documents, provided evidence, and shown that we are good people with real family ties to bring our loved ones here. Yet today, we are paying a very high price because of those who break the law, who do not wait years as we have, and who do not prove who they are before entering this country.
We are American citizens and lawful permanent residents asking for our husbands, wives, children, and parents. We have filed our family petitions, paid the required fees, and waited patiently for many years in line, following the law. We are not undocumented immigrants, and we have no ties to foreign governments. We are families who simply want to live together, step by step through the legal process.
The travel ban may have been created with other purposes in mind, but in practice it is tearing apart families who represent the true spirit of legal immigration. We believe there must be a clear exception for family petitions, so that fundamental bonds like marriage, the parent–child relationship, and the unity of brothers and sisters are not broken.
By signing this petition, you are sending a direct message to the Trump administration and Secretary of State Marco Rubio:
Families who follow the law deserve consideration, dignity, and the chance to be together.
