FCPS: Allow Students to Wear Graduation Regalia Awarded by National Clubs/Organizations

FCPS: Allow Students to Wear Graduation Regalia Awarded by National Clubs/Organizations
The Issue
Fairfax County Public Schools has decided that students involved in many nationally-recognized organizations such as Key Club, DECA, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), etc. are not allowed to wear official graduation regalia such as medals and pins during their graduation ceremonies.
Many of these students have worked hard throughout their high school careers, preforming community service and learning valuable skills for their future. Medals and pins signify that the student has made valuable contributions to their school and community.
Because of the timing of this decision, many club sponsors have already purchased and even distributed the regalia to their students.
We ask that Fairfax County Public Schools allow graduating students to display their contributions and passions on the day of their graduation by wearing regalia provided by national organizations that are meaningful to their academic and personal development.
