FFX County, VA: Provide the homeless with free access to COVID-19 Essentials
The Issue
Homeless people are at a higher risk of contracting the virus due to their exposure to elements of their community, as opposed to those who have an adequate shelter/home.
Homeless people are humans too, therefore, they should be able to feel safe. Oftentimes, the homeless use many forms of public transportation in order to get around the community, access food, and amenities, among other things. Unfortunately, not all people have the same access to sanitary/hygiene supplies such as face masks, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, disinfectant wipes, gloves, etc. in order to take the necessary precautions. Therefore, those who can't properly take precautions put themselves and others at risk of being exposed to the virus.
During these difficult times that COVID-19 has unexpectedly brought, it is essential for us as a community to speak up and take action for those who are vulnerable.
Therefore, we request that Fairfax County provides the homeless with free access to COVID-19 essentials to keep everyone safe.
