The Issue

Las Vegas rideshare drivers are calling for a fair review of driver compensation and working conditions for drivers operating on platforms such as Uber Technologies Inc. and Lyft Inc..

Every day, thousands of drivers transport visitors and residents across Las Vegas—serving hotels, conventions, casinos, and the airport. Rideshare drivers are an essential part of the transportation system that supports the tourism economy of our city.

However, drivers are facing increasing financial pressure due to:

• Rising fuel prices
• Higher vehicle maintenance and repair costs
• Increasing insurance expenses
• Low base fares for many rides

Many drivers report receiving extremely low compensation for trips that require significant time, fuel, and vehicle wear. In some cases, SUV rides can pay as little as $7 despite the higher operating cost of these vehicles.

Drivers are not asking for special treatment. We are asking for fairness and sustainability.

We respectfully request that the Nevada Transportation Authority:

1. Conduct a review of rideshare driver pay structures in Nevada.
2. Evaluate whether current fares allow drivers to cover operating costs.
3. Consider establishing fair compensation guidelines for rideshare drivers.
4. Facilitate dialogue between regulators, rideshare companies, and drivers.

Las Vegas depends on reliable transportation services. Without fair compensation, many drivers may be forced to leave the industry, which could impact visitors, residents, and the local economy.

We call on the Nevada Transportation Authority to recognize the importance of rideshare drivers and help ensure fair and sustainable working conditions.
