FAIR: Fairness in All Inclusive Relationships

FAIR: Fairness in All Inclusive Relationships
The Issue
Mission Statement
Our mission aims to modernize our country’s marriage laws by reforming the archaic Edmunds Anti-Polygamy Act of 1882. We seek to ensure that all consensual and equal relationships involving three adults, are legally recognized and protected. By aligning with the 14th Amendment’s guarantee of both equal protection and the constitutional right to marry, we seek to dismantle these outdated restrictions. It is our goal to promote fairness and respect for diverse relationship structures.
Who is impacted?
The Edmunds Anti-Polygamy Act of 1882 unfairly criminalizes consensual relationships among three adults, subjecting them to harsh penalties. Equal and willing adults who attempt to enter into marriage could face jail time of 5 years, $500 fines, losing the right to vote, and subsequent barring from holding public office. This outdated law penalizes individuals in equal, committed partnerships, ignoring modern values of equality and respect. We believe this is an over-step of the government’s authority.
What is at stake?
Keeping this law in place undermines the 14th Amendment’s guarantee of equal protection and the right to marry. It denies three consenting adults the legal recognition and protections they deserve, perpetuating discrimination against diverse relationship structures.
Why now?
Society has evolved, and our laws should too. It is crucial to update this outdated statute to reflect our country’s contemporary values and uphold constitutional rights. Reforming the Edmunds Act will ensure that all consensual, equal relationships are recognized and protected.
Each 3 person marriage will be a single contract and there will be only 1 green card per marriage*
