The Issue

To,
The Chief Administrator, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Puri, Odisha
Subject: Request for Fair, Transparent, and Devotee-Friendly Darshan Management at Jagannath Temple
Respected Sir/Madam,
Jagannath Temple is one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations in India, attracting millions of devotees every year. While devotees visit the temple they face significant difficulties due to the current crowd and queue management system.
During recent visits, numerous devotees have reported extremely long waiting times not only for darshan but also for basic facilities such as shoe deposit counters.

A major concern repeatedly raised by devotees is the perception that some visitors are able to bypass regular queues through unofficial channels mainly involving sebayats and local police, while ordinary devotees continue to wait for several hours.Such practices create a sense of inequality and undermine the spiritual experience of devotees who patiently follow the prescribed procedures.
The current system also contributes to congestion within the temple premises, resulting in overcrowding and discomfort for devotees.
We respectfully request the administration to consider the following reforms:
Introduction of an official online Shighra Darshan booking system with transparent pricing and limited slots.
Dedicated queues for senior citizens, differently-abled devotees, and families with young children.
Improved management of shoe deposit counters with multiple collection so that there won't be shortage of bags and return points.
Digital queue monitoring and display systems showing estimated waiting times.
CCTV-monitored entry points to ensure transparency and prevent unauthorized preferential access.
Periodic audits and public reporting of crowd management measures.
Better coordination between temple authorities, security personnel, and service providers to ensure a smooth and fair experience for all devotees.
Our intention is not to criticize any individual or institution but to strengthen the pilgrimage experience and uphold the principles of fairness, transparency, and equal access for every devotee of Lord Jagannath.
We request the administration to take these concerns seriously and initiate meaningful reforms for the benefit of millions of devotees who visit the temple each year.
Jai Jagannath.
Sincerely,
Concerned Devotees of Lord Jagannath
