The Issue

In Greenwich, CT, e-bike riders like myself face a growing challenge: the potential restriction of our ability to use the roads freely, despite following the same rules as cars. I have invested multiple thousands of dollars into my Class E electric bicycle, which I purchased with the expectation of using it to commute and reduce my carbon footprint. Now, it feels as though this investment is at risk due to impending bans.

E-bikes represent an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional motor vehicles. According to a report by Deloitte, adopting e-bikes significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional cars. In an era where climate change is an undeniable reality, it is imperative that we support clean transportation options.

Furthermore, e-bikes alleviate traffic congestion. With roads in urban areas notoriously clogged, especially during rush hours, e-bikes offer a solution to ease this pressure. They occupy less space and contribute less pollution.

All classes of e-bikes, including Class E, have the potential to transform urban mobility, provided they adhere to safety regulations similar to those for cars. By mandating the same road rules, we ensure the safety of all road users while promoting greener transportation.

I urge the decision-makers in Greenwich to recognize the benefits that Class E e-bikes bring to our community. Let's lead by example, showing that we prioritize environmentally friendly and efficient transport.

Join me in advocating for responsible e-bike usage in Greenwich by signing this petition. Let's not let our investments in the future go to waste, and let's keep our roads open to clean, smart, and sustainable transportation options. Please sign and support our call to allow Class E e-bikes on the roads of Greenwich, CT, under consistent safety regulations.
