Call on the FPA to release a clear breakdown, outlining the justification for the increase of the physician associate national examination (PANE) fees

To consider holding meetings within the FPA and/or RCP between those responsible for these decisions,  and physician associate students to raise/discuss issues that affect them as a result of the recent increase in the national exam fees. It will allow physician associate (PA) students to voice their opinions and concerns about the increase from £550 to £790 for the national exam (excluding travel & accommodation costs)

It's only around a £200 increase per student, so what is all the fuss about?

Since the national exams started running in 2010, there have been no significant improvements or technological advancements in how the PANE is organized. There has been no addition of cameras or any recordings of students whilst they are examined during OSCEs, preventing students to appeal a station or request for a re-mark, as well as virtual OSCEs not being recorded. Examiners are hired on a volunteer basis and are not paid (with the exception of their travel & accommodation expenses). All students across the UK, are expected to travel to one location in Liverpool in order to sit their exams.  There have previously been exams held in London & Birmingham, however, this was stopped due to 'running costs'. Although the FPA publishes the exam dates well in advance on their website, individual students do not find out when their own exam will be, until just about 5-6 weeks before the date.

With no improvements in regards to just some of the above issues, many PA students across the UK are frustrated with the increase in exam fees, due to a lack of clear justification to do so, from the FPA/RCP.

In addition, Covid-19 has left many PA students stuck with online placements and not enough support from their universities, despite continuing to pay £9000+ per year. Many PA students are now concerned they may not be able to afford to cover the PANE costs and for any potential resits.

The discussions should include PA students from a variety of positions during their course, qualified physician associates, PA students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and PA students with disabilities.
