Delay the University of Auckland MBChB graduate entry changes

Delay the University of Auckland MBChB graduate entry changes
Why this petition matters
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Science (FMHS) at the University of Auckland have altered the postgraduate entry criteria into the medical programme. The entry criteria prior to January 1st 2019 equally weighted the GPA across the final two years of an applicant’s degree in the considerations for final ranking. FMHS now use the cumulative GPA across an applicant’s entire degree. These changes were approved by the Committee for Academic Programmes for Universities in New Zealand in 2018, and have come into force on January 1st 2019. These changes were not officially announced on the MBChB web page until December 2019
We believe these changes are unjust as they were implemented unexpectedly, without consultation of the students directly affected by them. Many of us are at different stages of our respective degrees, and have already embarked on our journeys with a specific set of entry requirements in mind. It is far too late for us students to change how we conduct our degrees with respect to new entry criteria.
We completely understand the reasoning behind the changes, however, it is the lack of warning before implementation that we are concerned with. Therefore, we request that FMHS reinstate the previous entry criteria for an agreed period of time so that students who have already begun their postgraduate path to medicine can continue under the same regulations they expected to follow.
