The Issue

My wife, Femeena, has endured unimaginable suffering through abuse and torture. It has cost us everything we ever had as we navigated through an indifferent, cold, bureaucratic, unjust, and inhumanly patriarchal system, just to reach a point where I still have to plead for the basic right to live safely with her. This ordeal has taken away my will to live.

Canada, my homeland, is supposed to be known for its values of peace, tolerance, and compassion. Yet, the immigration process that my Indian wife and I are facing is anything but compassionate. It's a process marked by red tape and a lack of empathy, forcing us into a grueling and distressing separation.

For families like ours, being together is not just a privilege. It's an essential part of healing and recovering from trauma. The current immigration policies for spouse visas often create insurmountable obstacles that keep families apart. This is not just a personal issue; it reflects a larger systemic problem that affects countless couples who yearn to be together without unnecessary barriers.

I am asking the Canadian government to revise its immigration policies to allow Indian spouses of Canadian nationals to immigrate more easily and avoid prolonged separations that can aggravate trauma for affected families. This reform would entail streamlining the immigration process for spousal sponsorship, reducing wait times significantly, and ensuring the process is managed with empathy and efficiency.

Those who endure personal tragedy deserve expedient, humane treatment, especially when intending to reunite with family in a nation that promotes rights and freedoms. Please join us in calling for a change in policy that will allow families to reunite swiftly and live peacefully.

Sign the petition to enable a path forward for love, compassion, and healing, reflecting the true values of Canada.
