Remove Mugshot Pages From Facebook!

The Issue

Remove the Facebook pages Busted in Mobile and Arrested in Mobile for violating Facebook's policy against bullying and harrassment that affects more than the person accused of a crime but can also affect the children and families of crime victims.

AIM and BIM take arrest information from the Mobile County Sherriff's Office website and posts it to their Facebook page in order to make a profit by charging for mugshot removal. Both are EXPLOITING those who are arrested and the families of victims.

Mugshot businesses use Facebook to display mugshots because it's an easy money-maker. They use computer programs designed to automatically aggregate mugshots that are already publicly available on the Mobile County Sheriff's Office Website. In other words, the photos are already available publicly. Facebook gives mugshot pages a place for much more public exposure for the intent of humiliating people who’ve been arrested, all in an attempt to make people more likely to pay a fee in the hopes that the photograph will be removed.

Posting Mugshots on Facebook does nothing to keep the community safe and instead causes more damage than good. Families of victims are forced to relive a traumatic situation all over again because the person that harmed their loved one is booked into the jail everytime they're brought back for court hearings and their mugshot is posted on Facebook all over again and many FB users comment about the crime that took place.

We asked for prices for mugshot removal and found that they are not the same for everyone. If you seem desperate they'll go up on the price they originally quoted. This is known as price discrimination.

Immature adults on Facebook post cruel and belittling comments towards arestees of low level crimes and some post cruel comments to those defending the families of victims.

It's also not uncommon to see comments that are based on a person's race, gender, and sexual orientation. Women are also subjected to degrading sexual Comments.

Everyone has a right to be free from harrassment and Facebook is not respecting that right by allowing those who run a mugshot business from Facebook to continue operating.

Please sign this petition and demand that Facebook take down the pages Arrested In Mobile and Busted in Mobile.
