Petition for Facebook to ban and delete phishing posts.

The Issue

We’ve probably all seen those posts that are innocently shared and commented on by friends; the ones that ask for seemingly mundane information ...

“Your pornstar name is the name of your first pet and your grandma’s surname. Post your result below!”

“Which secondary school did you go to? Post below and let’s see if we can find some of your school friends!”

These are blatant attempts to farm information about you to potentially access your online accounts. Think about it, most of these questions reveal the answers to the most common security questions you’re asked when setting up an account.

At the moment these posts are not considered as going against Facebook’s community standards. If you try to report the posts you’ll receive a reply simply saying the post has been reviewed, there’s nothing wrong, and suggests you block the person/page responsible for the post.

Cyber Crime is a huge issue and allowing these kind of posts to continue being shared and commented on is only fuelling it. More often than not tens of thousands of people comment on these posts and share them. The impact is huge.

Facebook should recognise the danger and security issues these posts raise and seriously consider the posting of them as going against their standards, and in turn look to ban and remove all posts of this nature.
