Derry, also known as Londondonderry is a city in Northern Ireland. It is on the boarder of the Republic of Ireland. The vast majority of people on the island of Ireland refer to the city as Derry. The football team is called "Derry city F.C", the airport is called "City of Derry airport", and the council is called "Derry CIty & Strabane Council". There is even a popular t.v show called Derry Girls and if you travel the short distance to the Republic of Ireland, all the road signs will refer to the city as " Derry". 

For many Irish people the word "Londonderry" is a reminder of British colonialism in ireland which has resulted in years of violence and conflict. 

In the past, most unionists would also have referred to the city as Derry. The naming of the orange marching band "The Apprentice Boys of Derry" confirms this. The conflict in Ireland know as "the troubles " saw uniosts take a hardend stance against Irish republicans and many unionists now refer to the city as Londonderry

If we have "Londonderry" Then we must also have "Derry". It is offensive and  insensitive to the majority of people in Ireland to have Londonderry at the the total exclusion of the name Derry.
