Have you been a target of being bullied on social media? Chances are, you most likely have been a victim at some point. In fact, 87% of young people have witnessed cyber bullying online and this is a persisting problem in every day life. 

Facebook, you say that “we remove content that's meant to degrade or shame,” yet you have endless amounts of groups still active with the sole intention of degrading, humiliating and shaming others. Even after several people have reported these groups you have allowed them to remain open; the report feedback being “although it does not go against one of our specific community standards, you did the right thing by letting us know about it.” Myself and others cannot fathom or understand how groups with photographs of ordinary people being made fun of is not bullying and is not breaking any community standards.

This is not good enough. Facebook, DO BETTER. 

I am writing this to be a voice for the countless others who have been an unfortunate target of cyber bullying. The after effects of bullying is serious and can cause long-term damaging psychological problems. 

Facebook should not be condoning this behaviour and should enforce stricter actions against those bullying online and making Facebook an uncomfortable environment to be in as a result of these shaming groups. Nobody should be fearful of being ridiculed online after posting a selfie for not being “perfect”.

Please sign this petition to let Facebook know that they need to do better and bring an end to these shaming groups online. Together, we can be a voice for the unheard and make Facebook a safer and better environment.
