Remove the hate mongering Facebook Page: Arrested in Mobile: Weaver Edition.

The Issue

Facebook is enabling blatant violations of state and federal hate crime statues by allowing the Arrested in Mobile: Weaver Edition Page to operate (hereafter referred to as Page). The creators and moderators of this Page are directing hate speech at the MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians, an Official Recognized Native American Tribe in Alabama and its members. This Page is violating Alabama Code 13A-5-13 which specifically defines and outlines hate crimes. Moreover, many of the posts of the Page violate Federal Statue 245 of Title 18 of the U.S. Code. After multiple complaints by concerned Facebook users the social media site is serving as a platform to promote hate and intolerance. In failing to restrict this Page, Facebook has violated their own Community Standards and their Statement of Rights and Responsibilities (www.facebook.com/legal/terms). Facebook claims to prohibits “hate speech.” Which is defined as, "direct and serious attacks on any protected category of people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or disease." Based on State and Federal Statues we demand Facebook to immediately: 1. Shutdown the page Arrested in Mobile: Weaver Edition and all related pages such as: Arrested in Mobile and Arrested in PCola. 2. Ban the users who created and moderated these pages in response to their promotion of hate speech. 3. Competently review all complaints about racist pages that have been rejected. 4. Investigate and Ban the multiple suspicious accounts that frequently post and comment on the Page propagating the hate speech. We ask that Facebook: 1. Change the way page complaints are reviewed. 2. Investigate and further explain how the lewd complaints and multiple images on the page were not rejected and removed. 3. Implement better training processes for staff managing complaints. 4. Implement harsh penalties for violators of your stated policies. In the matter of Hate Speech there should be a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY. Hate speech can target either a person or a group of people. It includes speech targeting people of a particular race, ethnic background, country of origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or on the basis of a medical condition or disability. Facebook's failure to act is creating a dangerous internet culture of bigotry and hate. Facebook call connections friends, but in the words of Martin Luther King Jr., "In the end we will not remember the words of out enemy's but the silence of out friends." Facebook it is time for you to speak up.
