To mr. M. Valk, secretary of the Dutch Kennel Club 'Raad van Beheer'
Dear mr. Valk,
On July 2nd we have taken note of the official standpoint by the Dutch Kennel Club's board regarding the allocation of World Dog Show 2019 to China by the FCI.
We, as affiliated association of the Raad van Beheer, disagree with this official standpoint and believe that a more decisive approach is required in order to put an end to the cruel practices China considers to be able to treat dogs.
The ways China is dealing with dogs, and especially the way countless dogs are brutally slaughtered for the annual festival in the Chinese city of Yulin for the sake of a ritual, are contrary to our principles, everything the Raad van Beheer and FCI stand for regarding animal welfare and the Dutch animal welfare legislation.
Just like the Norwegian Kennel Club (NKK), we are of the opinion that pushing for a boycott would be the most powerfull way to put pressure on the Chinese Kennel Club and/or Chinese government, to put an end to the atrocities regarding the consumption and mistreatment of dogs.
Therefore we urge the board of the Raad van Beheer to carry out the views of its members, and to proceed to decree a boycott of the World Dog Show in China in 2019.
Sincerely,
Ingeborg Töniës
Secretary Schapendoesclub
