Extra Unstructured Time

Extra Unstructured Time
The Issue
Kids today are feeling more overwhelmed and stressed when it comes to schooling. These factors can relate to behavior in the classroom. It been proven many times that when people are stressed and overworked, they tend to lash out and make a scene. My solution to this would be more unstructured time. A small break, for everyone in the building, in the afternoon would help tremendously. Teens are more susceptible to stress due to academic pressure. Some kids have extracurricular duties after school, and some have jobs right after school. These are factors that impact our abilities in school. An extra block of time can prove to be beneficial to both students and teachers.
More unstructured time has other benefits as well. Such as, promoting creativity, socialization with peers, and it allows us to come back to class with a fresh mind and clear perspective. A journalist Alli March says, “Another wonderful benefit to unstructured time is that it creates a grace period in our days or weeks.” A simple 15-minute block of extra time will also let us do what we need to do in our classes if we need to talk to other teachers or have any questions.
