Extending the public transportation route

The Issue

Thruston, KY, is home to a resilient community of about 2,200 people, many of whom, like me, face transportation challenges. I'm a single mother on a fixed income without a driver's license, and the city bus route doesn't extend to where I live on the outskirts of town. This lack of access to public transportation affects not just me, but many others in Thruston who belong to the middle to lower-income bracket.

Imagine the daily struggle of commuting without a vehicle; the opportunities we miss out on to improve our lives because we can't access affordable, reliable transportation. Public transportation should serve all members of the community, offer us a path to a better life, and not stop short of neighborhoods like ours.

A survey by the American Public Transportation Association found that for every $1 invested in public transportation, approximately $4 is generated in economic returns. Expanding the public transportation system to include routes to East Daviess County will not only ease the burden on families like mine but will also boost the local economy.

The expansion would represent a meaningful investment in our community. Public transportation provides a critical lifeline to those seeking employment, education, and essential services. By extending the Owensboro bus route to reach East Daviess County, we can ensure that residents like us no longer sacrifice opportunities due to logistical constraints.

This change can make a significant impact on the quality of life for hundreds of families and residents in Thruston. I urge city planners and local government officials in Owensboro and Daviess County to consider the diverse needs of their constituents and incorporate East Daviess County into the public bus route.

Please join me in advocating for this vital extension of our public transportation. Sign the petition to make our voices heard and bring about this necessary change.
