Pass / Fail Class Option for SHU Students

The Issue

Ever since the spread of COVID-19 began, Seton Hall University, in addition to many colleges around the country, have done away with full in-person instruction. Although this is beneficial in terms of halting the spread of the virus and taking the proper safety precautions, the disadvantages that Seton Hall students face cannot be ignored. It can be agreed that there is a great difference in the learning environment of a college classroom and a room in a student's home. Simple tasks that could have been accomplished on a college campus are much harder to get done now, such as getting into contact with professors, and having simple questions answered in the classroom. There are also plenty of students who have needed to pick up extra work during this difficult time, which complicates making a schedule balanced around work and school. Extending the option of pass or fail to students will allow them to focus on the material they are being taught instead of worrying about a letter grade and how their GPA will deteriorate as a result. In addition to this, it will lead to a more stress-free student body, and overall a healthier class of Seton Hall University students.
