The Issue

In recent years, Manitoba has become a vibrant hub of economic growth and opportunity in Canada, attracting workers from around the world who contribute significantly to our community and economy. These workers are essential in sectors ranging from agriculture and healthcare to technology and education, helping Manitoba thrive and grow. It's crucial that we support these workers by ensuring they can continue their valuable contributions.

Currently, many workers in Manitoba face uncertainty as their work permits near expiration. This uncertainty can disrupt their lives, affect their families, and potentially lead to the loss of skilled and dedicated workers within our province. As of now, thousands of workers are in limbo, unsure if they will be able to stay and continue their work in a place they have come to call home.

Extending work permits for these individuals until 2028 is not only a compassionate solution but a necessary one for the continued prosperity of Manitoba. It would offer stability and security to these workers and their families, allowing them to remain integral members of our community. Moreover, the extension would benefit our local economy by maintaining a stable and experienced workforce.

Statistics from various reports indicate that immigrant workers make up a significant portion of the labor force in critical sectors. In fact, according to the Government of Canada, immigrant workers account for over 30% of the workforce in healthcare and technology industries. Losing these workers would create a massive gap that could take years to fill, thereby hindering industry growth and innovation.

We urge the Government of Canada and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to take immediate action to extend the work permits for Manitoba workers through 2028. By doing so, we can ensure a sustainable and thriving Manitoba, where communities are diverse, the economy is robust, and the future is secure for everyone.

Please join us in calling for this essential extension to protect and support our Manitoba workers. Sign the petition to make your voice heard and help us achieve this critical goal.
