Extend the Tennis & Pickleball Court Hours at Tower Grove Park to 11:30 PM
Extend the Tennis & Pickleball Court Hours at Tower Grove Park to 11:30 PM
The Issue
Give St. Louis’ Growing Pickleball Community More Time to Play
Tower Grove Park has become one of the most active destinations for tennis and pickleball in the St. Louis area. Our pickleball community alone has grown to over 240 members, and on any given evening, 30 to 50 players from our group are using the courts.
For many of us, these courts are much more than a place to play, they’re where we exercise, relieve stress, build friendships, and strengthen our community.
Unfortunately, the current 10:00 PM closing time significantly limits access for many players. Most of us work full-time and cannot arrive until the evening, leaving only a couple of hours to play before the lights are turned off. To make matters worse, the court lights are often shut off a few minutes before 10:00 PM, sometimes ending games with only one or two points remaining.
We respectfully ask the City of St. Louis to amend the current ordinance and extend the operating hours of the Tower Grove Park tennis and pickleball courts until 11:30 PM.
Why this change makes sense
Our pickleball community includes more than 240 members, with 30–50 players on the courts every evening.
Extending court hours would allow working adults more time to enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle after work.
The courts are already equipped with lighting, so no new construction is needed.
Neighboring facilities, such as Shaw Park, offer later court hours, demonstrating that extended evening play is both practical and beneficial.
A later closing time would make better use of an existing public recreational facility that is already heavily used by the community.
This request applies only to the tennis and pickleball courts, not to the rest of the park.
We appreciate everything Tower Grove Park staff and the City of St. Louis do to maintain these outstanding facilities. We hope city leaders will recognize the tremendous growth of pickleball in our community and work with us to provide reasonable evening access that better serves the hundreds of residents who regularly enjoy these courts.
If you support extending the tennis and pickleball court hours to 11:30 PM, please sign this petition and help us show city leaders that our community is ready for this positive change.
