Tens of thousands of first time buyers in the U.K. who are awaiting the completion of the buying process will be forced to pay thousands more in stamp duty if, through no fault of their own, their property purchase completes after 31st March 2025.

Perhaps you are one of these people, or have a child, relative or friend in this very difficult position.

Many in their 20s, 30s and beyond will have worked hard, sacrificed and saved for years, only to be hit with huge costs outside their control if the process doesn’t complete on time; this is already causing huge stress for those in this position. 

The petitioners here have no issue with the Government raising tax revenue to improve public services, but would ask a period of grace be granted for those who are partway through the home buying process, so as not be be hugely financially impacted, for the sake of, in some cases, a few days delay.

A delay of a few days or weeks would immeasurably help the first time buyers this Government has so often claimed to be on the side of.
