As students at Sam Houston State University, we believe that access to a well-equipped and quiet library is crucial for our academic success. However, the current operating hours of the Newton Gresham Library are too restrictive and do not accommodate the diverse needs of the student body.

Many of us have jobs or other obligations during the day and are unable to make use of the library's resources during its regular operating hours. Furthermore, studying at home can be difficult due to noisy or crowded living conditions, making it difficult to focus on our coursework. For these reasons, we are calling on the university administration to extend the hours of the Newton Gresham Library.

By extending the library's hours, more students would have access to a quiet and distraction-free study environment. This would be especially beneficial for those who cannot afford to pay for external study spaces or who require the resources that the library provides, such as specialized databases, books, and academic journals.

We understand that the cost of extending the library's hours may be a concern for the university administration. However, we believe that the benefits of doing so would far outweigh the costs. We are willing to work with the administration to find a solution that would allow the library to remain open longer without negatively impacting its staff or operations.

We, the undersigned, urge the university administration to extend the hours of the Newton Gresham Library to better serve the needs of the student body.
