Extend the Deadline for XL Bully Exemption Certificates.

Extend the Deadline for XL Bully Exemption Certificates.
The Issue
As a proud owner of an XL Bully, I have personally experienced the challenges associated with registering my beloved pet under the new government legislation. The current deadline simply does not provide sufficient time for many responsible owners to get their affairs in order. This is not a matter of unwillingness, but rather one of feasibility.
In our current cost of living crisis, many owners on lower incomes are struggling to comply with this new legislation in various ways. It's important to note that these are individuals who want to do right by their pets and by society, but are hindered by circumstances beyond their control.
XL Bullies are a unique breed requiring specific care and understanding - they deserve better than rushed compliance procedures that may overlook their needs and those of their owners.
The recent XL Bully ban has lead to healthy XL Bully type breeds, who posed absolutely zero risk to public safety being needlessly euthanized based soley on their appearance.
Both the government and the media need to recognise that not all XL Bully owners are the same.
It is my firm belief that the XL Bully Ban was a rushed piece of legislation that failed to deal with the recent spate of dog attacks effectively. It's is also my firm belief that the Dangerous Dogs Act (1991) is outdated and no longer fit for purpose in the UK. I would urge the UK government to review the Dangerous Dogs Act (1991) so that it reflects society's needs by today's standards.
Furthermore, I'd urge the government to proactively take action against criminals of organised crime who are using these innocent XL Bully type breeds for financial gain and notoriety with no regard for the welfare of the animals in their care.
The XL Bully Ban has meant that the crimes of the few have spoilt it for the many. XL Bully's from stable and loving homes, rescue centres and shelters have now had to pay the price for the reckless behaviour of irresponsible owners.
Lastly, The XL Bully Ban and Breed Specific Legislation has been opposed by many animal charities and trusts including the PDSA, Dog Control Coalition, The Dogs Trust, Blue Cross, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, The British Veterinary Association, Hope Rescue, The Scottish SPCA and The Kennel Club.
It is crucial that we extend the deadline for obtaining an XL Bully Exemption Certificate. This will allow more time for all owners - regardless of income or circumstance - to properly comply with this new law without undue stress or hardship.
Please sign this petition if you believe in giving every XL Bully owner the opportunity they need to do right by their pet and meet legal requirements responsibly.
