Aggiornamento sulla petizioneChange the proposed Surrey LRT to SkyTrainLangley City declares preference for SkyTrain
SkyTrain for Surrey

Good evening, supporters! In the last few days you will have heard a number of new developments that impact our campaign for SkyTrain south-of-the-Fraser. One exceptional development that was just made known today is that Langley City has formally declared its preference for a SkyTrain extension, from King George Station to a future Langley Centre Station! Also, TransLink has released the final cost estimates for SkyTrain and LRT alternatives on the Surrey-Langley Line, revealing the total capital cost difference. As the only option that will significantly reduce travel times (based on the new numbers), our position is that SkyTrain is the best and only choice for the Surrey-Langley Line. See our statement: SkyTrain remains the best and only feasible choice for the Surrey-Langley Line http://skytrainforsurrey.org/2018/07/22/skytrain-surrey-langley-best-only-choice/ Recently, more and more people have come forward in support of SkyTrain and against the currently proposed light rail system. A major endorsement for SkyTrain that we acknowledged recently was from Doug McCallum, a former Surrey Mayor and TransLink chair, who intends to support SkyTrain and call for the cancellation of light rail proposals as part of a Mayoral run in the upcoming elections. Still, we have some work to do. Some candidates and stakeholders, while holding many of the same positions we do, have not aligned with us on others. As an example, although Langley City is in support for a SkyTrain extension, it has also declared it would be willing to accept a street-running light rail as proposed by the City of Surrey and TransLink, citing the current funding and planning circumstances. The current funding and planning circumstances do appear to be making it difficult for stakeholders to withdraw their support for light rail, especially the Surrey-Newton-Guildford Line, which TransLink has claimed is "too far along" to reverse course on. We have, of course, fought back by pointing out contradictory real-life examples, such as in Ottawa - when a 2007 LRT proposal was cancelled even after the awarding of a design-build contract. As SkyTrain for Surrey continues to look at community outreach efforts, we will be needing your help to get involved! Near-future activities will include rallies, flyer creation/distribution, and other forms of public outreach - especially in conjunction with the upcoming municipal elections. We encourage you to get in touch with us by filling in the form at http://skytrainforsurrey.org/volunteer/ and also, follow us on Twitter at @SkyTrain4Surrey. We also encourage you to join our discussion group on Facebook to discuss #SurreyLRT issues and other matters. The group name is "Light Rail is NOT for Surrey": https://www.facebook.com/groups/nolrt4surrey/ We will have further updates soon. Once again, our warmest thanks for your support!
