As a cat owner and dedicated volunteer for a cat rescue organization, I have personally witnessed the stress that cats undergo when their environment and routine are abruptly changed. This stress can lead to a number of health and behavioral issues that can severely affect the wellbeing of these beloved creatures. More disturbingly, there is a chance that such stressors could lead to long-term effects if not properly managed.

I understand that change is a part of life. However, we also have knowledge that it takes at least 3 weeks, and often even longer for cats to adequately adjust to new environments. Unfortunately, PetSmart’s current corporate policy regarding the rotation of cats only provides them with a three-week window. 

In light of this, it appears evident that PetSmart's corporate policy is not in the best interests of the cats they provide for. Supporting this with research, a study published in Applied Animal Behaviour Science concluded that stress level in cats can be minimized by maintaining some continuity in their environment and routine (Source: Applied Animal Behaviour Science).

This is a plea to PetSmart to extend their corporate rotation policy of cats from the current 3 weeks to 2 months. By doing this, we can better ensure a humane and stress-minimized transition for these animals who depend on us for their well-being.
