Extend NCCCO Recertification Requirements to 10,000 Hours or 10 Years of Seat Time

Extend NCCCO Recertification Requirements to 10,000 Hours or 10 Years of Seat Time
The Issue
As a certified crane operator, I have passed the rigorous tests set by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO). Despite this achievement, I find myself facing the prospect of unnecessary recertification every five years. This process does not enhance my skills as a crane operator and instead represents a waste of time and money.
The current NCCCO recertification requirements are stringent and do not take into account practical experience gained over time. The requirement for recertification every five years is arbitrary and does not reflect an operator's competency or skill level.
I propose that these requirements be changed when an operator reaches 10,000 hours of verifiable seat time or ten years of verifiable seat time he or she no longer has to take the written test. This change would better reflect an operator's actual experience and proficiency in operating cranes. Any changes in Rules or Regulations should be sent out via email.
According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were approximately 44,410 crane operators in the United States in May 2019 (source: BLS). These operators would benefit from this proposed change as it would reduce unnecessary testing while still ensuring safety standards are upheld.
Let us make our voices heard so that we can bring about meaningful change in our industry. Please sign this petition to extend NCCCO recertification requirements to either 10,000 hours or ten years of verifiable seat time to be exempt from written testing.
