Our Rowland school family has been blessed to have Ms. Vanessa Jones as our principal for nearly a decade, and she has been an integral part of our community for nearly four decades. Her leadership, dedication, and commitment to our children's education are unparalleled. Recently, however, we received news of the abrupt decision to transfer her, which has left parents concerned and demanding clarity.

We, the parents, families, and community members of the Rowland school, are deeply troubled by the lack of detailed information surrounding the upcoming transfer and its potential impact on our children’s education and overall school environment. Our concern stems from the belief that such a change, proposed without adequate transparency and engagement, could disrupt the educational continuity and cause irreparable damage to the environment fostered under the stewardship of Ms. Vanessa Jones.

We are petitioning the Dekalb County Superintendent, Dr. Devon Horton, and the Dekalb County Board of Education to extend Ms. Vanessa Jones's principalship throughout the 2024-2025 school term. The effectiveness of her leadership is evident in the steady academic growth our school has achieved during her tenure. This petition's signees are testament to the wide appreciation of Ms. Jones' work in our school and the community she helped to build.

We, therefore, respectfully request clarity and transparency regarding this decision and that our elected and appointed officials engage in an open dialog with those most affected— the families whom this educational system serves.
