Extend library hours in Cairo, GA
Extend library hours in Cairo, GA
The Issue
Living in Cairo, GA, I've often found myself wanting to study in a quiet place, away from home, to better focus and enjoy a change of environment. Many others share this sentiment, yet we are hindered by the limited opening hours of our local library. Current library hours don’t accommodate everyone's schedule, especially those who work late or have other daytime commitments.
Libraries are a vital community resource, not just a place for books, but a sanctuary for learning, creativity, and community engagement. Extended hours would benefit students needing late-evening study, adults seeking a peaceful workspace, and families looking for educational activities outside regular working hours.
According to a 2022 Pew Research Center study, 78% of Americans believe public libraries help them find trustworthy information and develop important skills. Extending library hours in Cairo would only enhance this vital community asset and support our town's educational and cultural development.
We propose extending the library's evening hours from 5 PM to 9 PM on weekdays and opening from 10 AM to 5 PM on Sundays. Implementing these changes could also offer additional part-time job opportunities for our community.
In aligning library services more closely with community needs, we can ensure access to resources when they are most needed. Let's transform our library into a more accommodating, dynamic place that reflects the diverse schedules of Cairo's residents.
We urge the local government and library board to consider this petition seriously. By signing this petition, you support making Cairo, GA, a more accessible and culturally enriched community. Sign now to help us make this change happen!
