Extend GHS Lunches to 40 Minutes

The Issue

At Greenwich High School, there are plans to remove Flex Time next year. Everybody is satisfied with the amount of class time right now; making it longer would just further the dreariness of the school. Getting rid of our 30-minute flex block at the end of the day next year would extend each class by 2 minutes (from 53 to 55). Though the difference seems small, it'll add up. The focus on changing class times instead of extending passing times is a weird choice as it's hard for students to make their way from chemistry class to a class in Bella or Clark House within the 5-minute window, and honestly, teachers rarely adhere to the "grace period" we're supposed to get. The Greenwich BOE is prioritizing themselves and whats convenient for them rather than students. If we extend lunchtime instead of class, the longer passing time can be meshed into each lunch rather than just the first and fourth lunches. Students would have more time to socialize and enjoy their lunch rather than snarfing it down so they can return to class on time because half of their lunchtime consists of waiting in the incredibly long lunch line. With the new and hard-to-navigate student center, the lunch period has become more of a hassle than a time for a break, and students have found it more convenient to eat during their opens. Please sign this petition to extend our lunch period from 30 to 40 minutes and make our lives easier.
