MakeMusic recently announced the end of development of Finale. While they backed off ending new registrations and extended support for one year, they left Finale 27 inoperable in a macOS update that they knew was coming in two weeks. They also recognized that Finale 27 facilitates the bridge from Finale format to Dorico, the company’s recommended path forward. It takes time to convert old files to the new software, and MakeMusic has left long-time Mac users in an untenable position: drop everything and convert your old files NOW.

Many composers, myself included, have decades-worth of files and just as long a dedication to using this tool. To be unceremoniously cut off with limited planning for how to fully support a reasonable transition to a new software is a disservice to a devoted user base, and breeds ill-will toward the company’s continuing products.

This is a petition to MakeMusic to invest in making Finale 27 function with macOS Sequoia, giving those users a longer window in which to save those old scores.
